The Bitter Barkeep

This monthly brochure subscription was my senior thesis student project. It's filled with a cultivated, ever-changing list of cocktail recipes for people who are interested in broadening their taste in drinks. The beautifully illustrated cocktails in combination with the vintage, funky collage art join to create aesthetically stimulating recipe designs, intended to be saved and used throughout a person's lifetime.

The Bitter Barkeep wants its subscribers to not only collect new and fun cocktail recipes, but also learn about the history and practical components of each cocktail! The backside of each recipe does this by giving the history, food pairings, liquor suggestions, and strength level of each drink.

The subscription is intended to continuously be introducing people to new cocktail recipes in the hopes that they can try them all, in their own time. Whether people invest in ingredients and make them at home or order them out at a bar or restaurant, its goal is for people to be able to save the recipes easily. So, a recipe card box was designed in order to hold the tear-off pages of the brochures to use whenever!

It's important that every aspect of the subscription is designed with the brand in mind. Whether it be the envelope used to send out the brochures or the instagram page that advertises the subscription, every component must include the things that make the brand unique. These include the brand's colors, the phrase "cheers!", the collage elements, and the brand's personal and relatable voice.
